While planning for this part of the brief, I was tasked with coming up with as many reasons as possible why a teenager might want to join the army. The final reason I chose to focus on was: ‘Teenagers don’t want to be in a 9-5 lifestyle and environment. They stay up late and don’t want to wake up early for an office job, which isn’t well-suited to a classroom setting.’ My goal with this message is to show that the repetitive nature of a 9-5 job, combined with the predictability of being in the same environment every day, isn’t ideal for some teenagers. Instead, I want to highlight that joining the army offers the opportunity to choose different roles, experience new challenges daily, and be in different environments. This variety and excitement are often seen as more appealing to teenagers than the structure of a traditional office job from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This is the script I put together for the ideal advertisement I am planning. Its dialogue includes only a narrator because, as this is my first script, I wanted to keep it simple and avoid introducing too many characters. Ideally, this ad will be between 30 seconds and a minute long. My aim with this advert is to place the teenager character in a setting and situation that most teenagers would likely find themselves in, making it relatable to the audience. The idea is for them to see that where they are now isn’t too different from what’s being shown. This will contrast with the rest of the ad, which will include various scenes of the teenager performing different tasks in the army, in different roles, to showcase the variety of experiences they could have.

This is the storyboard I created for my script. I chose a 16:9 aspect ratio as it is best suited for TV viewing. This is just a rough idea of how I ideally want my advertisement to unfold. It begins with a teenage girl playing video games, and eventually, she realizes that her lifestyle doesn’t align with the path she was raised to follow. When she has this realization, the advert match cuts to her in the military, where she appears much more content with her life. There are various scenes of her in different roles in the military, each one showing her enjoying every aspect of it. The advert then ends with the famous “Join us today” tagline.
